first rode a mini simmons back in september. immediately obsessed. did some research. talked to a lot of people. looked at a lot of internet stuff. after seeing some that friend allen from seagate surfboards made, decided to ask him to make one. later decided wanted to try to shape one for vern. allen was kind enough to let me observe. and lend me his shape shed. and tools. and knowledge. and give me mucho pointers. got greg at eavey rider surfboards to glass them. and the result follows. it was a super rad project/process and many thanks to allen and greg for letting me be so involved. truly truly enjoyed. and couldn't be happier with the outcome.
more great music for wilmington. members of the original thunderlip line-up have gotten together with a new project and a rad new sound. mountain thrower had their first show this saturday at reggie's 42nd street tavern. other acts children of the reptile, colossal abyss, and the needles. all local wilmington acts, all worth checking out. was only able to catch children of the reptile and mountain thrower. it was super enjoyable. very excited to see lots of music popping up in town. hope it continues. lifted this video someone took with their phone from youtube. god bless the intraweb.
thank you to the bands and the dude with the super nice phone who took this vid. and to reggie's
caught another show last night at reggie's 42nd street tavern. tons of good company and good tunes from dj ghost tracks, the blacks, the beggars, colossus, and thunderlip. woke up this morning, ears ringing, voice fleeting, kidneys crying, feeling aged. think time passes like dog years in this place. heaven on earth. but with debauchery. and cheap booze. thanks fellows. had a blast.
buddy sam with the salty project celebrates his birthday today. lifted this photo of him from the latest local sessions mag and glued it to some other photos. (thats sam at the bottom, makin' it rain) happy birthday sam-o.
start a surf blog and it goes super flat. i started the blog hoping to document surf experience and supplement it with other not so random paraphernalia (due to the fickle state of east coast surf a full on surf experience blog would be near impossible. at least in real time.) . thus far it has been quite the opposite. lots of supplement and little substance (surf wise). it reflects the day to day. thank the lord for various other hobbies that keep us entertained while we wait for what drives us most. guess there is nothing else to do but wait and keep ourselves otherwise occupied. more supplement it is!
like sandwich excursions.
roast beef and brie' on a crossaint with onion mayo sauce de baked with love in south port
always been partial to vingtage surf movies. definately impressed by what is being accomplished on surfboards these days but there is something about the grain-y old surf flicks that just makes me feel good. the hal jepsons. bruce browns. alby falzons. have a soft spot for those. i remember watching endless summer for the first time around the age of 8 and the pure excitement. that excitement has not changed. everytime it is put on the boob tube the goosebumps roll out.
didn't get a chance to make any new years posting. so here it is.
its only been a few days but can't help but to have a good feeling about 2011. rang the new year in with some bitchin' good tunes from friends in white tiger and a bed of roses and thunderlip. highlights included matt shredding so hard he bled all over his guitar and chuck getting electricuted by his xmas light stage outfit. friend eric at posterhound family workshop pointed out how lucky we were to have such a talented group of friends and i couldn't help but to agree whole heartedly. i have been blessed with an amazing group of friends and for that i am most thankful.
so here is 2011. i look forward to spending it with you all.
