went back home for a quick bit last weekend. a chance finding on craigslist turned into an extended visit with my parents neighbor of nearly 15 years. tommy had a few old surfboards that he was selling. all of which were originally purchased by he or his brothers in the 60's. we ended up chatting for a few hours. him relating one story after another of surfing/living on the outer banks during the sixties and seventy's. he is a good story teller and funny as hell. it was very enjoyable.
tommy and his 8'0" dewey weber strato series experimental from 1969. he said this was one of the first "shortboards" he saw on the east coast, along with hobie's corky carrol mini model. note in the picture you can see his fingers over the nose. he called my attention to that as i was taking the picture saying he and his friends used to trip out over the fact the board was small enough to do so.
