south island surf club 1966.

sat down with dennis barbour (pictured third from right standing) and flipped through "Surfing on the Cape Fear Coast" the other week. fun to hear his stories of carolina and kure beaches in the 60's and 70's, the designs of east coast surfboards and danpri surfboards. danpri with its unique weber performer esque fin and thinner performance (for the time) rails. though he doesn't surf anymore, he still talks about it with such excitement. he also turned my on to a few little surf movies they put together in the late 60's. the videos are a little jumpy and far from professional but super cool. they can be found on the south island surf club facebook page.
